Affiliate Links Quick Start
Upload your affiliate links so your AI can recommend the right products to your followers â automatically.
How It Works
Once your links are uploaded, Lightwell reads your Instagram captions and video transcripts and uses AI to match each product to the posts where it's most relevant. When a follower asks your bot about a topic, it recommends the best-matching products with your affiliate links.
Example:
Follower: "What do you use for your morning skincare?"
Your bot: "In my morning routine post I mention a vitamin C serum and SPF moisturizer â here are my links!"
The File Format Lightwell Needs
Lightwell accepts a CSV file (.csv) with a header row and up to 4 columns:
The first row must be the header row with the column names above. Brand Name and Promo Code are optional â if you don't have them, just leave those cells blank.
Preparing Your Upload â ShopMy Example
Most affiliate platforms let you export a CSV. The export will have many columns you don't need â you just need to pull out the right 2 and build a clean upload file. Here's the process using ShopMy as an example. The same steps work for any platform (LTK, Amazon Associates, or any brand affiliate dashboard).
Step 1: Export Your Links from ShopMy
- Log in to your ShopMy account.
- Go to My Links or Analytics.
- Click Export to download your links as a CSV file.
Step 2: Find the Right Columns in Your Export
A ShopMy export has 12 columns. You only need 2 of them:
- Title â becomes your Product Description (Column B)
- Short URL â becomes your Affiliate Link (Column C) â this is your ShopMy tracking link
â ī¸ Use "Short URL", not "URL". The Short URL column is your ShopMy affiliate tracking link (e.g., https://go.shopmy.us/p-xxxxx). The URL column is just the plain product page â it won't track your commissions.
Step 3: Build Your Upload File
Create a new spreadsheet (separate from the ShopMy export) with all 4 columns â Lightwell reads them by position, so every column must be present even if it's blank:
- Add a header row: Brand Name, Product Description, Affiliate Link, Promo Code
- Fill each row by mapping:
- Column A â Brand Name: leave blank (ShopMy doesn't export a separate brand column)
- Column B â Product Description: paste from Title
- Column C â Affiliate Link: paste from Short URL
- Column D â Promo Code: leave blank
- Save as CSV (.csv) â in Excel, use File â Save As â CSV (Comma delimited)
Your finished file should look like this:
Column Mapping for Other Platforms
The same 3-step process works for any affiliate platform. Here's a quick reference for what each platform calls these columns:
Uploading Your File
During Initial Setup (Step 3)
- Complete Step 1 (Creator Info) and Step 2 (Bot Appearance).
- On Step 3, drag your CSV into the upload area or click Choose File.
- Lightwell validates the file instantly and shows how many links were found.
- Click Complete Setup â your links are saved and your bot launches.
Don't have your links ready? Check "Skip affiliate links for now" and add them later from the dashboard.
After Setup â from the Affiliate Links Page
Go to Content â Affiliate Links in the navigation. Click Upload CSV and choose a mode:
- Replace current links: Deletes everything and starts fresh with your new file. Use this when you've updated your whole list.
- Add to current links: Appends the new links without touching existing ones. Duplicates are removed automatically.
âšī¸ After any upload, your bot automatically reprocesses to re-match links to your Instagram content. You'll see a "processing" status on your dashboard â this takes a few minutes.
